Vital Spark sails out of Nova Scotia. I don't know her full story — but that's part of what drew me to paint her.
There's something about a working vessel like this that hints at decades of history you can't fully see. The way she sits in the water. The lines of the hull. The perspective of this particular moment. All of it points backward in time to something larger than one painting can hold.
This one came easily. The further along I got, the more it seemed to find itself. Those are the paintings I trust the most.
I hope it gives you a moment of quiet contemplation. It gave me several.
