“Topline – Coastal Rope and Buoy | Monochrome Watercolor on Canvas”
Original Watercolor on Canvas
18” x 24”
Status: Available
“Topline” shifts focus from my other more open landscapes and seascapes to a more contained, working aspect of the maritime environment. The buoy and coiled rope reflect years of hard use—objects shaped as much by years of service as by exposure to everything the world can throw at you.
I used a monochromatic palette to emphasizes form, texture, and surface over color. The layering of rope and the worn presence of the buoy present a quiet complexity, where structure and softness exist together.
As an original work, it offers a more intimate and grounded counterpoint to broader seascapes—well suited to collectors drawn to pieces that reflect the working life of the water and the subtle marks it leaves behind.
Each original painting is developed through a deliberate process that emphasizes surface, material, and longevity.
Each work is created using professional-grade watercolor pigments on either prepared canvas or archival 100% cotton rag watercolor paper. The chosen substrate supports the character of the piece while ensuring long-term stability.
For paintings on canvas, the surface is built gradually through multiple layers of gesso, creating a smooth and controlled foundation. A watercolor ground is then applied in several thin layers, with careful sanding between each application to achieve a refined painting surface. This process allows the watercolor to retain its subtlety while adhering securely to the canvas.
For works on paper, the painting is executed on archival 100% cotton rag watercolor paper. Once complete and signed, the work is mounted to a cradled wood panel using an archival PVA adhesive, providing both stability and a clean, contemporary presentation.
Each painting is then sealed with an archival spray varnish to protect the surface while preserving its tonal qualities.
All original paintings are finished in a solid maple floating frame and arrive ready to install. Each piece is carefully packaged in weather-resistant materials and includes a certificate of authenticity verifying the work.
Each painting is a singular work, shaped through both observation and process, and intended to endure as part of a lasting collection.
