Flamingos are almost always painted in full color — vivid pink against tropical blue. That's not what I saw.
I wanted to find them in a quieter moment. Heads down, grouped together, standing in still water under a gray sky. Resting, not performing. The color I chose reflects that — muted, cool, just enough warmth to remind you what they are.
For me this painting is about the things we look for when the world gets loud. Community. Safety. The comfort of being among your own.
It works because it doesn't try too hard. I think that's the lesson it taught me.
