This painting began with a photograph my sister-in-law, Erica McPhee, took at Samples Shipyard in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. She sent it to me after spending time there with my brother, and I immediately connected with the quiet strength of the scene. While the painting began with Erica's photograph, I made compositional changes along the way, including adding the lobster buoy in the foreground to strengthen the sense of depth and draw the viewer into the scene.
The boat was tied alongside the dock awaiting restoration. It had clearly spent years working the coast, and although its best days might have appeared behind it, its story wasn't finished. Since this painting was completed, the boat has been fully restored and returned to the Maine coast where it belongs. That is where the title, Resilience, comes from.
I've always been drawn to subjects shaped by time, weather, and service. Boats like this aren't beautiful because they're perfect. They're beautiful because they've earned every mark they carry. They remind me that the things—and the people—that have weathered the most often have the most to give.
The original oil painting was created as a gift for my brother, making this one of the more personal pieces I've shared publicly. I'm pleased to offer it as a limited edition print for collectors who appreciate the character of the working waterfront and the stories that endure long after the paint has weathered and the wood has aged.

Each print is produced as part of a fixed, limited edition of 100 and is individually signed and numbered by the artist. Once an edition is fully collected, it is permanently closed and not reproduced.
Printed on Arches Aquarelle Rag 310 - a 100% cotton archival paper produced by Arches, one of France's historic papermakers with a tradition dating back more than 500 years. The print is created using Canon Lucia archival pigment inks rated for more than 100 years of display life. The surface has a soft, matte texture with a natural warmth that closely reflects the character of the original watercolor.
Each print is prepared in the studio and presented professionally matted in white with a rigid backing, then enclosed in protective, weather-resistant packaging for shipment. Each print is professionally matted to fit a standard 16” x 20” frame.
A certificate of authenticity accompanies every piece, verifying its place within the edition and including a unique identifying number recorded by the artist.
