The story of this acrylic painting is very similar to that of “A Piece of Home”, because they were both painted in the same week. I was painting an old boat, mostly in browns and blues when my then 6-year-old came in and informed me that my art was “too dull”. Alrighty then. I asked for some guidance, and I was given several tubes of acrylic paint, and a new canvas from the stack. On this painting I was given a bit more direction than the other, and from an earlier walk in a Vermont field I was instructions to paint a stand of birch trees… I set to work, and then was given the brightest tube of red paint allowed by law, and was instructed that the leaves needed to be red. Who was I to argue? I accepted the tube of paint, and you see the result. I think I laughed most of the way through this painting, at my child, and at myself. It was indeed a “happy afternoon”. What also makes me happy is when people see this print in person. They light up. I smile every time.

I hope that this piece brings you the happiness it brings me.

Each print is produced as part of a fixed, limited edition of 100 and is individually signed and numbered by the artist. Once an edition is fully collected, it is permanently closed and not reproduced.

The work is printed on Arches Aquarelle Rag 310 — 100% cotton archival paper with a history spanning over 500 years, using Canon Lucia archival pigment inks rated for over 100 years of display life.

Each print is prepared in the studio and presented matted in white with a rigid backing, then enclosed in protective, weather-resistant packaging for shipment.

A certificate of authenticity accompanies every piece, verifying its place within the edition and including a unique identifying number recorded by the artist.

As editions close over time, each print becomes part of a finite body of work held in private collections.
