Some places become part of us long before we realize it.
Growing up on the Maine coast, my grandparents' home was one of those places. At the entrance to their long driveway stood a simple sign that read "Mizpah." As a child, I didn't fully understand its meaning. I simply knew I had arrived somewhere that felt like home.
Not far away was this dock on Little River.
My grandfather spent his life as a lobsterman, and the working waterfront shaped many of my earliest memories. We swam here, jumped from this dock as kids, and spent countless hours exploring the shoreline. Looking back, those ordinary moments became some of the most meaningful.
This painting isn't just about a place. It's about the people who gave that place meaning.
For me, Mizpah is a reflection on home, family, and the memories that quietly shape who we become. Some places stay with us long after we've left them, reminding us where we came from and the people who helped guide us there.
