"Mizpah" — Original Watercolor on Paper | Maine Coast Dock & Boat Painting | Boothbay Harbor Art

$350.00

Watercolor on Paper

9’ x 12”

Status: Available

Mizpah was the name on the sign beside my grandparents' house, next door to where I grew up on the Maine coast. My grandfather was a lobsterman. I probably jumped off this dock a thousand times as a boy.

The float and the gangway stretch up toward the water — that's the perspective of a child, measuring the distance to the next jump. Cold Maine water, climb back up, run back to the end, jump again. Repeat until someone's parents yell from the shore that the dock isn't yours and you should probably be somewhere else before anyone makes a phone call.

The joy of harmless mischief. I can still feel it.

The word Mizpah comes from scripture — a blessing spoken between people who must part. "May the Lord watch between you and me while we are absent from one another."

Some places hold you even when you're far away. This is one of mine.

Medium & materials: Watercolor on archival 100% cotton rag paper, mounted to a cradled wood panel using archival PVA adhesive. Sealed with archival spray varnish.

Presentation: Arrives framed in white and carefully packaged with certificate of authenticity.
