Some of my favorite moments on the Maine coast have been spent walking the shoreline with no particular destination, simply looking down to see what the tide had decided to leave behind.
This painting grew out of a series I created while working along the rocky shoreline of East Boothbay, Maine. The rocks themselves were there, but the sea glass wasn't. I added it later because it represented something I had been thinking about long after I left the beach.
Growing up on the Maine coast, I knew sea glass as something both beautiful and familiar. It often began as ordinary glass bottles—some lost from ships, others used by lobstermen as weights on their gear, something I used myself while lobstering. Over time, the ocean quietly transformed those broken pieces into smooth, colorful reminders of the people who worked these waters before us.
For me, finding sea glass has never been just about discovering something beautiful. It's a connection to those who came before me—to the generations who made their living from the sea and left behind small traces of their lives for the tide to return years later.
Like much of my work, this painting is rooted in gratitude—for the coast, for the people who shaped it, and for the quiet reminders that some stories are still waiting to be found along the shoreline.
Collector Information
Each print is produced as part of a fixed, limited edition of 100 and is individually signed and numbered by the artist. Once an edition is fully collected, it is permanently closed and not reproduced.
Printed on Arches Aquarelle Rag 310 - a 100% cotton archival paper produced by Arches, one of France's historic papermakers with a tradition dating back more than 500 years. The print is created using Canon Lucia archival pigment inks rated for more than 100 years of display life. The surface has a soft, matte texture with a natural warmth that closely reflects the character of the original watercolor.
Each print is prepared in the studio and presented professionally matted in white with a rigid backing, then enclosed in protective, weather-resistant packaging for shipment. Each print is professionally matted to fit a standard 20” x 24” frame.
A certificate of authenticity accompanies every piece, verifying its place within the edition and including a unique identifying number recorded by the artist.
