Some boats are retired to the shore and remain there. The water still finds them in other ways—paint slowly lifting from the hull, rust working through the iron fittings, the colors softening under years of salt, sun, and weather. There's no sadness in it. looks like this has done its work.
I've always been drawn to subjects that carry the visible marks of a life well lived. The scratches, worn paint, rust, and weathering aren't imperfections to me—they're evidence of purpose. They remind us that usefulness isn't measured by how new something appears, but by what it has contributed over time.
This painting was also an important step in my own work. It was one of my early explorations of watercolor on canvas, experimenting with pigments, texture, and the unique possibilities the surface offered. The layered blues of the hull, the warmth of the rust, and the textured shoreline all came from pushing beyond techniques that would have been difficult to achieve on paper.
Like the boat itself, the painting reminds me that growth often begins when we're willing to explore unfamiliar ground.
Collector Information
Each print is produced as part of a fixed, limited edition of 100 and is individually signed and numbered by the artist. Once an edition is fully collected, it is permanently closed and not reproduced.
Printed on Arches Aquarelle Rag 310 - a 100% cotton archival paper produced by Arches, one of France's historic papermakers with a tradition dating back more than 500 years. The print is created using Canon Lucia archival pigment inks rated for more than 100 years of display life. The surface has a soft, matte texture with a natural warmth that closely reflects the character of the original watercolor.
Each print is prepared in the studio and presented professionally matted in white with a rigid backing, then enclosed in protective, weather-resistant packaging for shipment. Each print is professionally matted to fit a standard 24” x 24” frame.
A certificate of authenticity accompanies every piece, verifying its place within the edition and including a unique identifying number recorded by the artist.
