Some boats get retired to the shore and stay there. The water finds other ways to reach them — rust working through the metal straps, paint lifting at the edges, the hull settling into the color of the land around it.

There's no sadness in it. A boat that looks like this has done its work.

I painted this exploring new pigments and new techniques on canvas — the blues in the hull especially, the way they shift from light into shadow, the way rust and blue sit against each other without fighting. The shoreline texture came out of experimenting with what the canvas would do that paper wouldn't.

The painting brought me somewhere new. I came away from it grateful for what a fresh perspective can open up.

Nearly all prints in this edition have been collected. When the last one finds a home, it closes permanently.
