My wife and I were eating at Lobsterman's Wharf in East Boothbay, Maine when I saw this. A boat at its mooring, bow pointed directly into the wind. It doesn't fight it. It just faces it.
I've been told my whole life to do the same. By my parents, my coaches, good friends who showed up at the right moments. Steer into adversity. The way forward is through. You have more in you than you think — trust it and move.
That's what this boat was doing. That's what this painting is about.
The rugged beauty of that harbor is always present in my work. East Boothbay will always be home. But this one carries something beyond place — a reminder I return to when I need it.
I hope it brings that to you too.
