The ocean has a way of reminding us that family isn't defined by appearances. It's built through connection, trust, protection, and the quiet choice to move through life together.

This painting brings together a chosen family. That image stayed with me because, in many ways, it reflects my own life.

When I painted this piece, I was thinking about my wife Megan and our children. Megan didn't just become part of our family—she helped shape it. Through her patience, love, encouragement, and unwavering support, she has become a mother to our children in every way that truly matters. Watching that relationship grow has been one of the greatest gifts of my life.

Like much of my work, Family began with an observation from nature but became something much more personal. It is a reflection on the families we build, the people who choose to love us, stand beside us, and help shape who we become. Whether connected by blood or by choice, those relationships deserve to be cherished.

For me, this painting is an expression of gratitude—for Megan, for our children, and for the quiet, everyday acts of love that transform a group of individuals into a family.
