"Drifting" — Original Watercolor on Canvas | Jellyfish Painting | Coastal Ocean Art
Original Watercolor on Canvas
15" × 30"
Status: Available
My son Rob first asked me to paint a jellyfish when he was little. I've returned to the subject several times since, each painting becoming an opportunity to explore new color, movement, and light beneath the surface. I completed Drifting just before my first solo exhibition, painting much of it during the Melbourne Art Festival while demonstrating my process for visitors. By then, the jellyfish had become more than a subject—it had become part of my own journey as a painter.
There is something about jellyfish that continues to draw me back.
They move without struggle, carried by currents they cannot control. They don't resist the water around them—they become part of it. Whenever I paint them, I'm reminded that not every challenge in life is overcome by pushing harder. Sometimes the greatest strength comes from knowing when to let the current carry you toward where you need to be.
The ocean has always been a place of perspective for me. It has a way of quieting the noise and reminding me that life has its own rhythms. Drifting grew from that feeling—a quiet moment beneath the surface where movement is gentle, light is constantly changing, and stillness exists even in motion.
Medium & Presentation
Original watercolor created on prepared canvas using professional-grade archival pigments. The canvas is built through multiple layers of gesso and watercolor ground, each carefully sanded to create a refined painting surface before the watercolor is applied. The finished painting is sealed with archival varnish, presented in a solid maple floating frame, and arrives ready to hang.
Your original includes a signed Certificate of Authenticity and is carefully packaged for safe delivery.
