I painted this live at an art festival, missing home. Home is Maine — rocky beaches, smooth stones worn by generations of tides, driftwood bleached white by salt and sun. I gave myself three pigments and l went on from there, reaching back to memories along the water as a boy. Every stone in this painting is a different color. Every one was mixed from the same three pigments, to tie the painting together, and to tie each stone to one another.
Medium & materials: Watercolor on prepared canvas — multiple layers of gesso and watercolor ground, sanded between applications. Sealed with archival spray varnish. Finished in solid maple floating frame, ready to install.
